Product reviews on Walmart Canada by brand

Posted by Paul on Jul 1, 2021 11:12:38 AM

When we were planning our imminent expansion into Canada, we decided to have a look at the online grocery landscape. That meant having a look at the online supermarket product ratings and reviews for CPG brands in Canada on the main retailers. We did look at Lowblaws, Sobey's (Voilá) and Metro but they don't currently carry shopper product reviews. So we focussed on Walmart as they do and have done for some time.

To undertake the review of online product reviews in Canada within Walmart, the first step was to scrape the raw data, then attribute it to brand and manufacturer. Once this was done, the analysis could begin. A short summary of our observations is contained below together with Excel and PDF downloads of the brand level data.

Digital shelf analytics providers compared - Updated June 21

Posted by Paul on Jun 2, 2021 1:00:00 PM

In March we created our first list of Global Digital Shelf Analytics providers. Since then we've had lots of contact with those on the list and conversations with even more providers, so we thought we should update our list.

We've added five new DSA providers: Convert Group, DataGram, DataWeave, Detail Online, and Syndigo. We've also added Import.IO for those who want to go for themselves as they provide the base technology that some of the other firms use.

If you are a global DSA provider who covers multiple grocery supermarkets in multiple countries and isn't represented below, then feel free to get in touch to be included in our next update.

In the future, we plan to contact providers to get more insight on their offerings. If you wish to represent your firm then please fill in your details here: Sign up to represent your company

Introduction

As a leading digital shopper marketing agency, we work with hundreds of CPG clients a year. Through delivering our ratings & reviews solution for brands in grocery supermarkets we have either worked directly with or been privy to reporting on digital shelf from the top suppliers around the world. We are also regularly asked by our clients, who do we know or would we recommend working with on grocery digital shelf analytics, monitoring and reporting?

There is of course no single answer. There always has to be has to be a good fit between the supplier and the client. A very large multi-category, multi-country brand-led manufacturer should probably work with a supplier who can satisfy their teams across their priority markets. Likewise, if you only have one category in one market, then a smaller local player may be your perfect fit.

Below are the main grocery digital shelf analytics providers we are aware of and some areas for comparison to help you choose between them, as well as links to their sites for easy reference.

There are many variations of passages of Lorem Ipsum available but the majority have suffered alteration in some form by injected humour or randomised words which don't look even slightly believable.

You are going to use a passage of Lorem Ipsum, you need to be sure

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature.

Discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32 the standard chunk of Lorem Ipsum used since the 1500s is reproduced below for those interested.

Sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 from "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" by Cicero are also reproduced in their exact original form, accompanied by English versions from the 1914 translation by H. Rackham.
